The National Coordinator of NextGen Progressives (NP), Ambassador Henry Okereke, has called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State to be cautious of political moles allegedly infiltrating the party under the guise of contesting elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ambassador Okereke, who made the remarks while reacting to the influx of politicians into the party, urged the state leadership to ensure a level playing ground for all aspirants, warning that failure to do so could create internal divisions capable of undermining the APC’s growing strength in the state.

He cautioned that while the recent wave of defections into the APC is a positive sign of the party’s rising acceptability, not all who come in may have genuine intentions.

“The APC in Abia today is a good bride that everyone wants to associate with, but we must be very careful not to make mistakes,” Okereke said.
“Some of those rejoining or declaring for elective offices under our platform have no proven electoral value. I believe some are being sponsored by opposition elements to destabilize our party from within.”

Okereke emphasized the need for vigilance and fair play, urging the party hierarchy to resist imposition and ensure that credible and popular candidates emerge through transparent internal processes.

"We must keep the house united. The leadership should be mindful of those coming in to cause division, and we must not allow internal sabotage to derail the progress we’ve made,” he added.

He maintained that the APC must focus on fielding candidates with the credibility and capacity to secure victory for the party in 2027, stressing that “political opportunists who seek only settlement after elections should have no place in the new APC.”

It will be recalled that the Abia State APC Chairman, Dr. Kingsley Ononogbu, recently expressed optimism that the party is well-positioned to take over the state in 2027 during an event in Umuahia where several former members were formally received back into the fold.
